Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team didn't have enough firepower to keep pace with No. 14 Denison, falling 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the John W. Heisman Field House.
Oberlin fell 8-3 at first and third doubles but the second flight needed extra swings to determine the winner. However, in the end,
Shawn Lisann and
Sebastien Naginski were ultimately outlasted in a tiebreaker 8-7 (8-6) against Anthony Payiavlas and Jack Bulger.
In the top singles flight,
Sean Billerbeck dropped a 7-6 (7-5) decision against Kael Shah in the opening set and the Big Red ace would use that momentum to take the second set 6-0.
Rohan Gold fell 2-6, 3-6 at No. 2 to Jacob Patterson while the No. 5 battle needed three sets to find a victor. Senior
James Dill fell 2-6 against Andreas Chapides in the first but regrouped to win the second set 6-4. However, the super-breaker went Chapides' way as he doubled-up Dill, 10-5.
The loss evened Oberlin's record at 7-7 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC. Denison moved to 19-3 and remained unblemished at 4-0 in league play.
Oberlin is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when the College of Wooster comes to town for a 5 p.m. matinee.
