Yeomen Overpowered by #17 Kenyon Owls

Box Score Gambier, Ohio – After four-straight wins, the Oberlin College men's tennis team met their match in an 8-1 loss against the 17th-ranked Kenyon Owls. The Yeomen fall back to 7-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.

Beginning in the doubles competition, the No. 2 tandem of James Dill and Grant North took on the duo of Luis Platas and Christophe Leblanc. The Kenyon competitors made quick work of the Crimson and Gold, winning 8-1. With one win down, Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski evened the score with a statement victory in the No. 3 match. The duo defeated Thomas Kallarakal and Evan Dean 8-2. Sean Billerbeck and Rohan Gold battled to win the last point in the doubles competition, but even in a close match, the No. 1 team fell 8-4.

Down 2-1, Gold dropped the first singles match in the No. 2 slot 6-0, 6-2 just minutes before Paulo Pocasangre took down Lisaan 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 set. James Foster fell 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot as the Owls earned their fifth point. With the win now secured for the Owls, Oberlin looked to avoid the singles sweep. In the top slot, Billerbeck battled and came close to forcing a tiebreaker, but the 20th-ranked singles player, Kallarakal held strong for a 6-2, 6-4 win.

The woes continued for Oberlin as Naginski fell in the No. 4 slot 6-1, 6-2 before a close battle for Dill ended in defeat. The No. 5 singles player fell 6-1 in the first set but battled back from a 5-1 deficit to force a tiebreaker. Dill fell in the final set as Oberlin lost 8-1.

Oberlin return home for their next match tomorrow, Saturday, April 8 when they host #14 Denison. First serve is set for 1pm.
