Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Oberlin Stings Yellow Jackets

Oberlin, OH – Playing for the first time in 12 days, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team looked good as new after a 15-5 victory over Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Crimson and Gold to 7-4 ahead of their NCAC opener this weekend.

Abbie Patchen led the way with a career-high six points in the game. The junior scored a career-best four goals in the matchup while chipping in another two assists. Megan Hiller tallied a team-high five goals, while Lauren Mills and Audrey Koren added multiple goals as well. Pacing the defense, Katie McMorris scooped up five ground balls which was balanced by her offensive counterpart, Emily Shimabukuro with five GBs.

Oberlin grabbed control early in the contest, scoring all four first-quarter goals. Rookie Hiller got the action rolling five minutes in as she finished off a player-up goal with the help of an Shimabukuro feed.

Less than three minutes later it was Patchen who found the back of the net after taking a pass from Ellie Jensen. Mills and Patchen would each cash in a free-position goal to extend the cushion out to four.

After Oberlin held BW scoreless in the opening period, roles were reversed in the second session as the Yeowomen were unable to add to their total. The Yellow Jackets would score the lone goal of the quarter as Kaitlyn Hradek finished off a Lily Tope pass at the 11:08 mark Oberlin ultimately carried a 4-1 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Crimson and Gold picked up where they left off in the opening minutes of the second half with a goal off the stick of Hiller. The lead extended to five when Hiller connected with the back of the net again, coming off the back of a caused turnover by Olivia Corradi.

The Yeowomen continued to roll with back-to-back goals from Koren then Patchen, as Oberlin sat on an 8-1 lead. Koren added one more before the Yellow Jackets responded with a pair of scores to cut the lead to 9-3 at the end of the quarter.

Four quick goals opened the fourth quarter with the first a solo score by Hiller. Baldwin Wallace's Kaitlyn Hradek added the visitor's two goals before Patchen capped the run, off an assist from McMorris. Scoring her fifth goal of the game, Hiller capitalized on a free position attempt to improve Oberlin's lead to 12-5. It was all Yeowomen from there as the team added three more goals from Mills, Shimabukuro, and McMorris for a 15-5 final.

The Yeowomen kick off their NCAC competition in their next game at home this Saturday, April 8 against DePauw. The game is set to start at 12pm with a live stream available here and live stats available here.
