Softball Blanked at Ohio Wesleyan

Delaware, Ohio - The Oberlin College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan University, falling 4-0 and 6-0.

In game one the Oberlin hitters failed to solve the rubik's cube that was Katie Chittum as she stymied the Yeowomen lineup by allowing just two hits over the complete-game victory while striking out six and walking none.

An infield hit by Lalli Lopez in the third and Mia Brito one-out single in the fourth were the lone blemishes on Chittum's ledger as she moved to 7-9 on the year.

Hailey Alspach (5-11) did all she could to keep Oberlin within striking distance but the Bishops struck for two runs in the first before adding single tallies in the third and fifth, which proved to be more than enough insurance for Chittum.

Chittum continued her dominance in the nightcap, throwing another complete-game two-hit shutout to go along with three more strikeouts.

Oberlin committed three first-inning errors but the Bishops did not score. However, another miscue in the second allowed one run to come across and OWU got another tally in the third on Rylie Moore's double to center to make it 2-0.

It was just a two-run deficit all the way through the middle part of the sixth, but the Bishops would score four runs in the home half of the frame to leave no doubt in the outcome.

Katie Austin (3-12) took the loss after tossing 5.2 innings, scattering seven hits and six runs (five earned) to accompany two walks and a strikeout.

Oberlin's only hits of the game came courtesy of Maria Chutko and Loren Carter as they each led off the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, with infield singles to shortstop.

The busy closing stretch for Oberlin continues tomorrow as it welcomes John Carroll University to town for a 3:30 p.m. crosstown twinbill.
