Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over the visiting Wabash College Little Giants on Sunday afternoon at the John. W Heisman Field House.
The victory ran Oberlin's North Coast Athletic Conference record to 1-1 and marked the team's fourth straight overall as the Yeomen now sit at 7-5.
The Yeomen prevailed in the second and third doubles flights to carry a 2-1 match advantage into singles play. The duo of
Sean Billerbeck and
Rohan Gold were 8-5 victors over Alvaro Alonso-Sanchez and Augusto Ghidini in the second position and
Shawn Lisann and
Sebastien Naginski got by Ethan Koeneman and Cole Shifferly 8-4 at No. 3.
Billerbeck notched his fourth-straight victory in the top singles slot as he down Alonso-Sanchez by matching 6-3 counts.
Lisann secured a three-set victory over Cole Borden, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the third position leaving Oberlin just one more point away from winning the match.
That point would come courtesy of Naginski as he outlasted Augusto Ghidini in 3:15, earning a 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 triumph to clinch the victory for Oberlin.
James Dill also fought off match point against Tharakesh Ashokar in the fifth position, winning 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The Yeomen are back in action on Friday afternoon at No. 17 Kenyon College. The first serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
