University Heights, OH - The Oberlin College baseball team fell 15-5 at John Carroll University on Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Streaks, who entered the game just outside the top 25 and receiving votes in the national poll, lived up to their billing as they moved to 19-9 on the year.
Oberlin struck first, posting a single tally in the first inning as
Ethan Hurwitz roped a two-out RBI double to left to score
Jacob Thompson.
Joe Strabley led off the third with a double and would come in to score on
Jake Blozy's single to right to stake the Yeomen to an early 2-0 lead.
Unfortunately things would unravel for the Yeomen in the bottom part of the frame as the Blue Streaks erupted for five runs on three hits and an error. It was fifth-year Justin Hanley who delivered the big blow in the frame with a bases-clearing three-run triple.
Oberlin would get one back in the forth as
Max Cairo tripled and came in to score on a wild pitch and in the sixth it was Cairo's groundout that brought in Hurwitz that shrunk the JCU lead down to 5-4.
Sadly, the Yeomen bullpen had no solutions in slowing down the Blue Streaks' bats as they scored one in the sixth, five in the seventh and four in the eighth to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.
The Yeomen's final run would come in the eighth as senior Max Anastsasio roped a double to the gap in left center to score Hurwitz.
Andrew Shen (0-1) got the start and scattered eight hits, giving up eight hits and six runs (five earned) to go along with six strikeouts and three walks over six innings.
Oberlin is back in action on Wednesday at noon as the Kenyon College Owls come to town for an NCAC twinbill.
