Oberlin Lacrosse Tripped Up Against Denison

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team took on the battle-tested Denison Big Red for an NCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon. Although sprinkled with highlights, the home team struggled to maintain offensive momentum as Denison took the game, 20-4. The loss sets the Yeowomen back to 6-7 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

Lauren Mills led the scoring drive with a pair of goals while Abbie Patchen and Alexis Escobedo tallied one each. Ellie Jensen accounted for the lone assist while gathering a team-high four draw controls. On the defense, Janny McCormick earned the start in cage with nine saves behind Caroline who led the team with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Denison dominated the opening minutes of possession until a draw control by Jensen led to the Yeowomen's first goal. The senior found Mills inside the eight for the score as Oberlin found their way on the board. The team seemed to settle in as Patchen tallied the second goal just minutes later to cut the Big Red lead to three. The two goals were the last of the half for Oberlin as the visitors put away eleven straight scores before the half.

Down 16-2 to start the third, Oberlin gave up another trio of goals before Escobedo ran circles around the defense to break the Big Red run. The yeowomen played their best defense of their game in the final period of play, allowing just one goal. Although the game well out of hand, Mills ended the match on a high note with a well-place shot for a goal in the final seconds of play.

Oberlin hits the road for another conference test next Saturday, April 22 when they take on the Wittenberg Tigers. The game is set for 1pm with a live stream will be available here, and live stats here.
