Oberlin, Ohio - Loren Carter hit a walk-off double in game one to lift the Oberlin College softball team to a 5-4 win, but the Yeowomen dropped the nightcap 6-4 to the visiting DePauw University Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the games Oberlin honored seniors
Haley Bartsch,
Kathryn Beeman,
Lalli Lopez, and
Kyra Davis.
In the victory, Oberlin entered the sixth inning trailing 4-2 and would get a run in the sixth on a Tigers error.
After two were out in the seventh,
Mia Brito poked a single that sent
Maria Chutko across the dish for the game-tying run and then
Loren Carter roped her first extra base hit of the year, belting a double to the gap in right center to score
Katie Austin.
Both teams would score in the first inning with
Kailey Dunham delivering an RBI single to left center that sent Chutko across the dish. The same would happen in the fourth as Beeman roped an RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
The Tigers would get two runs in the fifth, setting the table for the late-inning heroics from the Yeowomen.
Hailey Alspach went the distance, scattering nine hits to go along with two strikeouts and no walks as she moved to 5-9 on the year.
Oberlin had 12 hits in the game with Brito leading the way with three, while Bartsch and Beeman each finished with two.
The Yeowomen took the early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the second inning. Lopez poked a two-run single through the right side and
Daisha Bouknight followed with an RBI groundout.
After the Tigers would get one back in the third, Oberlin would post a single tally in the fourth on a RBI single to make it a 4-1 Yeowomen advantage.
Unfortunately, DePauw would rally, scoring a run in the fifth before taking the lead in the sixth on Callie Rheinheimer's grand slam home run.
Katie Austin took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk to go along with one strikeout.
Oberlin is back in action at home on Monday against Albion University.
