Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College baseball team fell by the scores of 5-3 and 12-2 to the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Dill Field.
In game one, Oberlin hurler
Vince Dolcemaschio lived dangerously through 5.2 innings as the Tigers had plenty of traffic throughout the contest as they finished with 15 runners left on base. Dolcemaschio (1-4) was ultimately saddled with the loss as he tagged for four runs on 10 hits to go along with three walks and six strikeouts.
Each team posted a single tally in the second inning with the Yeomen run coming courtesy of
Chris Wolfe's RBI groundout.
The Yeomen would go out in front in the fifth as senior
Yianni Gardner delivered a clutch two-out two-run single through the left side that scored
Zach Masnikoff and Wolfe.
Unfortunately, the Tigers answered back with three runs on four hits in the top part of the fourth. Connor O'Malley's two-out RBI double to right center tied it at 3-3 to chase Dolcemaschio and then Matt Moore greeted
Max Wassarman by belting a go-ahead RBI single to center.
After Wittenberg added an insurance run in the eighth, Oberlin threatened in the bottom part of the inning and put two aboard with two outs but were unable to score.
The Yeomen had had eight hits in the game with Wolfe and
Jacob Thompson each finishing with two.
It was all Tigers in the nightcap as Wittenberg broke the game wide open with a five-run fourth to claim a 6-0 lead.
After Wittenberg added three more runs in the sixth, Oberlin would push a run across in the home half of the inning on
Max Anastasio's double down the right field line and the final Oberlin run would come an inning later on a single by Wolfe that scored
Ethan Hurwitz.
Justin Fuls lasted just four innings, allowing six runs on six hits.
Oberlin fell back to 9-13 and 2-6 in the NCAC. Wittenberg moved to 20-6 and 6-0 in the NCAC.
The Yeomen are back in action tomorrow at John Carroll University.
