Westerville, Ohio - After a promising performance a day ago against the Case Western Reserve University Spartans, the Oberlin College baseball team was unable to keep that momentum rolling, falling 15-4 in a subpar performance at Otterbein University on Thursday afternoon.
The Yeomen actually out-hit the Cardinals 9-5 but five Oberlin errors, 11 walks, and two hit batters resulted in disaster.
A pair of unearned runs in the first gave Otterbein the early lead and they would tack on four more in the fourth on three walks and two hits.
The game would come unglued for Oberlin in the sixth as the Cardinals scored nine runs on just two hits as the Yeomen gifted them eight free passes in the frame on six walks and two hit batters.
Oberlin plated a pair in the sixth on an RBI single by
Jake Blozy that scored
Sean Livingstone, and
Max Anastasio followed with a run-producing single to center.
The Yeomen would score two more in the ninth on an RBI single by
Chris Wolfe and on a run-scoring ground out by
Anton Shelton.
Oberlin used six pitchers in the game with
Jay Aghanya (2-1) getting saddled with the loss after he allowed three hits and four walks over five innings of work. He was tagged for eight runs with six being earned.
Jacob Thompson was the lone Yeoman with multiple hits as he finished with two in the loss.
Oberlin is back in action on Saturday, playing host to NCAC foe Wittenberg for a doubleheader starting at noon.
