Delaware, OH – After a toe-to-toe battle with the Bishops, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team fell to OWU 9-6 on Wednesday night. The Yeowomen fall back to an even .500 on the season at 6-6 and 0-2 in the conference.
Leading the offensive charge,
Emily Shimabukuro tallied three goals, all coming in the first half.
Abbie Patchen and
Audrey Koren combined for the last trio, with Patchen adding an assist.
On the defensive end, senior
Ellie Jensen scooped a team-high five ground balls while pulling in a trio of draw controls.
Janny McCormick earned her second career start in cage while making ten saves and bringing in four ground balls.
The Battling Bishops struck first, but it wasn't long after that Patchen responded for the Yeowomen to get the game going. Again, OWU connected with the back of the net, but not without Oberlin continuing to challenge the home team. The Crimson and Gold Shimabukuro scored the equalizer late in the first quarter off a pass from
Lauren Mills during a man-up opportunity.
Tied 2-2 to open the second period, OWU jumped ahead on an early goal. It was back-to-back goals from Shimabukuro that gave Oberlin their first lead of the game. The Bishops tied it up just seconds before the end of the half as the game went to the break at 4-4.
It was all OWU in the third quarter as the team rallied for three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead. Oberlin struggled to connect with the back of the net, failing to capitalize on three free position opportunities. A Patchen to Koren connection ended the OWU run in the fourth quarter, but the Bishops responded with two goals to extend their lead to four. Patchen scored the final goal for the Crimson and Gold, but it came all too late as the Yeowomen fell in NCAC dual.
The Yeowomen return to Knowlton for their next matchup against NCAC powerhouse Denison. First draw is set to start at 4pm with a live stream available
