Box Score Oberlin, OH – The Oberlin College men's tennis team hosted Ohio Northern in the Heisman Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. The Yeomen came out on top with a 7-2 victory as they improve to 3-4 on the season.
James Dill and
Grant North earned the No. 1 doubles win by a score of 8-5 before
Sean Billerbeck and
Rohan Gold took the No. 2 match by 8-4. Completing the doubles sweep were
Shawn Lisann and
Sebastien Naginski with a convincing 8-1 win.
With a 3-0 lead the Yeomen made strong moves to seal the 5 points needed for the team victory. Dill earned the 4
th point with a retirement from his opponent after leading 4-1 in the first set, Naginski would need a pair of match points to clinch the match for the Yeomen, finishing his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Shawn Lisann added the 6
th point in straight sets in the 3
rd singles spot 6-4, 7-6(4). North made quick work of his opponent to add the 7
th point. The Polar Bears earned two very close wins at 1 and 6 singles Gold fell short at the number 1 spot 7-5, 6-3, and
James Foster would fall a couple points short in an intense battle 2-6, 7-6(5) 10-8
"This was a great match for us leading up to DePauw next weekend," Head Coach
Eric Ishida comments of his team, "Our intensity and adaptability really showed up today."
Oberlin returns to home court for their next match on Saturday, March 11 against the DePauw Tigers.
