Clermont, Florida – The Oberlin College softball team fell to a pair of NESCAC teams in the final games of their spring break trip. Against Colby, Oberlin put up four runs to the Mules' 13 before losing to Middlebury 11-2. On the season, Oberlin falls back to 3-8 overall.
The Yeowomen fared well in the first two innings until an RBI single in the third set the Mules on a ten-run campaign in the third inning. Not going down without a fight, Oberlin's
Alaina Di Dio doubled to bring
Katie Austin home and put the Yeowomen on the scoreboard.
Loren Carter followed that up with a single RBI before an error by the pitcher allowed
Kailey Dunham to touch home. The score, now 10-3, Oberlin added one more run off the bat of
Lalli Lopez in the form of a sacrifice hit that brought Carter home.
A trio of errors in the bottom half of the fourth inning led to three more runs for the Mules, putting the game just out of reach for Colby's run-rule victory.
Looking to bounce back in game two against Middlebury, the Crimson and Gold went toe-for-toe in the first inning. When the Panthers scored a run on a pass ball, Oberlin's
Mia Brito responded with a dash to home from an error in right field. Tied 1-1, Middlebury held strong against the Oberlin defense and tacked on five runs over the next two innings. Dunham forced a fielder's choice in the bottom of the third inning that brought
Maya Means to home plate. The Yeowomen tried to pull in another four runs to tie but had another explosive pair of innings to force the run-rule and an 11-2 win.
Oberlin now sets their sights on their home opener next Thursday, March 30 in a doubleheader against Heidelberg. First pitch is set for 3:30pm with the second game coming around 5:30pm. A live stream for the games is available
