Hilton Head, SC - The Oberlin College men's tennis team earned a 5-4 win over Union College on Wednesday morning to conclude its spring break trip a perfect 3-0.
The Yeomen carried a 2-1 advantage into singles play after winning the second and third flights. The No. 2 duo of
Sean Billerbeck and
Rohan Gold notched their sixth straight victory with an 8-4 triumph over Aidan O'Brien and Seth Prusko, while at No. 3
Shawn Lisann and
Sebastien Naginski were easy 8-1 victors over Austin Gregory and Jonathan Tsipenyuk.
Oberlin dropped the fourth and sixth flights to open singles play, giving the Dutchmen a 3-2 match advantage. However, Gold would even the affair with a pair of 6-2 wins over Dimitris Binopoulos at No. 2.
The No. 5 battle would go Union's way as senior
James Dill fell in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 7-10, leaving the Dutchment just one point away from securing the victory, but the Yeomen had other ideas.
Billerbeck finished off Ben Jacobs in the top spot 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to leave the No. 3 match to determine the winner. After falling in the first set 3-6, Lisann took the second set against Khai Ton, 6-4, before cruising in the super-breaker 10-1.
The Yeomen have now won five of their last matches to move to 6-5 on the year.
Oberlin will be idle until April 2 when it welcomes Wabash to town for a key conference clash.
