Babson Park, Florida – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team dropped their Tuesday game to #10 SCAD (NAIA) in 17-8 fashion. A hat trick from
Emily Shimabukuro was not enough as they Yeowomen fall to 5-4 on the season.
Shimabukuro found the back of the net on three of her four shots on cage to lead the team in scoring. Five other players recorded goals while
Ellie Jensen added a pair of assists and
Lauren Mills added one of her own.
Sophia Ferrantelli stood tall in cage with 15 saves aided by defender
Olivia Corradi with a pair of ground balls.
Oberlin's
Katie McMorris struck first, but the lead was short-lived as the SCAD Bees responded with four-straight goals over the next couple of minutes. Jensen found Shimabukuro to cut the run but the Bees continued to sting and added another pair of goals before the quarter ended.
SCAD continued to wreak havoc on the Oberlin defense, opening the second period with back-to-back goals. Down 8-2,
Megan Hiller capitalized on a free position chance, but that was all the Crimson and Gold could muster before the Bees closed the half with five-straight goals and a 13-3 lead.
The Bees picked up where they left off with another two goals in the first half of the third quarter, but Shimabukuro evened out the damage with a duo of goals in the final three minutes. Down 16-5, the Yeowomen scrambled to make a comeback with individual goals from Mills,
Alexis Escobedo, and McMorris, but the three chips weren't enough to catch the Bees as Oberlin fell 17-8.
Oberlin returns from spring break next Wednesday, March 29 for the first of three games at home. The Crimson and Gold take on the Otterbein Cardinals at 6pm with a live stream available
