Lake Wales, Florida – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team started their spring break trip with a 21-5 victory against Warner, an NAIA opponent. Five different players scored three or more goals as the Yeowomen improve to 5-3.
Katie McMorris led Oberlin in all things offense, with a team-high five points including three goals and two assists. The rookie also led the Crimson and Gold with seven draw controls and three ground balls. With four goals,
Audrey Koren led the scoring while
Lauren Mills,
Megan Hiller, and
Emily Shimabukuro each tallied their own hat trick.
It only took the Yeowomen 16 seconds to get on the board, as
Abbie Patchen found Koren off the draw for the goal. Mills got in on the action just a minute later before McMorris added another for the 3-0 lead. Warner responded with a quick goal, but Mills and Hiller kept the ball rolling while moving ahead to 5-1. The Royals added one more goal before the end of the period to trail Oberlin 7-2.
Right off the whistle, Oberlin again scored two goals in the opening minute of the quarter, this time coming from
Marley Cox and McMorris. A free position goal was all the Royals could muster in a heavily defended Crimson and Gold eight, as the Yeowomen continued to control the game. Oberlin scored six-straight goals before the half ended to sit at a comfortable 15-3 lead.
The run for Oberlin continued into the third quarter behind Shimabukuro and
Larissa Andrick, Warner finally caught some attacking momentum with a pair of back-to-back goals. It was all OC in the final quarter highlighted by a
Lauren Deardorf score, the first of her career. Behind four saves from
Becca Galbraith in the fourth quarter, Oberlin held off the Royals for a final score of 21-5.
The Yeowomen have a quick turnaround before their next game, tomorrow, March 21. The team will take on the NAIA tenth-ranked SCAD in a neutral game hosted at Webber International. Opening draw is set for 2pm with live stats available
