Men’s Tennis Earns a Pair of Wins to Open Spring Break

Hilton Head, SC - The Oberlin College men's tennis team earned a pair of wins to open up  spring break, defeating Millikin University 6-3 before downing Frostburg 4-3.

Oberlin trailed 2-1 after doubles play with its lone win coming in the second slot where Sean Billerbeck and Rohan Gold were 8-5 victors over Theodor Wolf and Clayton Maack. 

Billerbeck picked up a win in the top singles flight as he got by Maack in a tight battle, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. 

Gold was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Cardestig at No. 2 while Sebastien Naginski gutted out a three-set win at No. 4 as he outlasted Wolf 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7. 

Senior James Dill won by identical 6-3 counts at No. 5 against Cole Phillips, rookie James Foster completed the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Laux Rodrigo in the sixth position.

Frostburg Recap
Using the NCAA Division II 7-point scoring system, the Yeomen edged Frostburg State. 

With doubles counting as just one point, Oberlin prevailed in the second and third flights to earn the early advantage. Billerbeck and Gold were 6-2 victors over Del Carden and Matt Bolen while Shawn Lisann and Naginski prevailed 7-5 against Mason Hordubay and Noah Fisher.

The Yeomen fell in the top two singles bouts, but Naginski got a win at No. 3 as he bested Bolen by matching 6-1 scorelines. 

Foster recorded a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory at No. 5 while senior Sam Topper clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Jason Haley at No. 6 to give the Yeomen the win.

The pair of victories ran Oberlin's record to 5-5. 

The Yeomen are back in action on Wednesday against Union. The first serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
