Gambier, OH – The Oberlin College women's tennis team didn't have enough firepower to keep up with the nationally ranked Owls of Kenyon, falling 9-0 on Wednesday evening in Gambier.
After falling 8-2 in the top doubles flight, Oberlin's No. 2 tandem of
Dina Nouaime and
Lydia Zafeiri gave Erika Pontillo and Allaire Berl all they could handle but ultimately fell in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-1).
Lazaridou, who ranks 17
th in the ITA Central Region, took down Oberlin ace
Marta Laska 6-0, 6-3 in the top singles flight.
Allaire Berl took down
Anna Pastore 6-1, 6-2 in the second position, while the third bout went the distance as Nouaime pushed the region's 15
th-ranked player Shadia Amado Aguad to the brink in a three-set affair. After falling 4-6 in the first, Nouaime evened the match with a 6-3 win in the second before finishing in the wrong end of a 12-10 count in the super-breaker.
The loss evened Oberlin's record to 3-3 on the year ahead of its next match on Sunday against Ohio Northern. The first serve is set for 10 a.m.
