Women's Lacrosse Takes Down John Carroll in Overtime for First Win

University Heights, OH – In their first road test of the season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team came out on top in a game that went into extra time with John Carroll on Wednesday night. Winning their first game of the season in 10-9 fashion, Oberlin improves to a 1-2 record.

Second-year Lauren Mills led the offense with a trio of goals and an assist. The Missouri native boasted a balanced stat line with four ground balls, four draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Megan Hiller, Emily Shimabukuro, and Katie McMorris chipped in another two goals each while the duo combined for five assists. Sophia Ferrantelli earned the start in goal and recorded five saves and a ground ball in tow.

The Yeowomen struggled in the opening minutes of action, giving up three goals to the Blue Streaks. Oberlin finally got on the board behind a Hiller sprint to cage.  John Carroll scored once more before the end of the quarter to hold a 4-1 lead.

Resetting their game plan, Oberlin dominated the second quarter, scoring four goals while holding JCU scoreless. Shimabukuro got the scoring started before Mills capitalized on a man-up opportunity. Hiller notched the equalizer before newcomer Larissa Andrick connected with Alee Holman-Evans to give Oberlin the lead.

The Crimson and Gold continued to roll through the second half, with another shutout quarter for Oberlin. Right off the opening draw, McMorris continued the OC run, following that up with another goal at the 11:47 mark.

With Oberlin up 7-4, John Carroll picked up the pace with a pair of back-to-back goals in the first two minutes of play. The Blue Streaks tied the game up at the 8:20 mark, but the even score only last for thirty seconds before Mills found the back of the net. Mills added one more goal in the game, but it was not enough to hold the Yeowomen's lead as JCU tied the game with 1:09 remaining.

Heading into overtime, the Crimson and Gold made quick work of the host team, scoring just 42 seconds into extra play after McMorris connected with Shimbuakuro for a 10-9 final.
