Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 6-3 win over the visiting Allegheny College Gators on Wednesday night.
The Yeomen swept through doubles play, picking up three critical team points before singles action. The top duo of James Dill and Grant North bested Ethan Carr and Anton Hedlund by an 8-6 count and the No. 2 battle was even closer as Sean Billerbeck and Rohan Gold gutted out an 8-7 (7-4) victory over Julien Voisey and David Rodriguez.
Things went much easier for Oberlin in the third flight as Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski were 8-1 victors over Will Jarvie and Adam Shinomiya.
The Gators prevailed in the top three singles flights but the back half of the Yeomen lineup came through to earn the win.
Lisann was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 over Voisey, leaving Oberlin just one more team point away from clinching the match and that would ultimately come courtesy of Dill as he upended Rodriguez 6-4, 6-3.
North would cap off the victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 triumph against Jarvie in the sixth position.
The win marked the second of the spring for the Yeomen who will welcome Ohio Northern to town on Sunday for a 1 p.m. clash.
