Oberlin, Ohio – In a 'get right' game for the Crimson and Gold, the Oberlin College women's basketball team hosted Wooster on Saturday afternoon. The Yeowomen dominated the contest, shooting 14-29 from three. Junior shooter
Gina Lombard drilled nine threes in the contest to set a new program record for most three-pointers in a game. The previous record, held by Cristina Briboneria, was set in the Yeowomen's game against Lake Erie in 2004. Oberlin improves to 13-8 overall after the 100-65 victory and 6-4 in the NCAC.
In addition to her 29 points, Lombard added another six rebounds and two assists.
Camille Zinaich and
Angela Kumler also finished in double-digits with 12 and ten points each, while combining for eight rebounds and six assists.
Kendal McCall and
Alyson Jefferson led the team in rebounds, each bringing eight.
Oberlin's offense fired on all cylinders in the early quarter, putting up 29 points to Wooster's 13. The Yeowomen knocked down five threes in the first ten minutes, led by Lombard with three treys and a jumper for 11 points.
With a 16-point advantage headed into the second quarter, the Crimson and Gold didn't let up as Kumler extended the lead after getting everything out of an 'and one' opportunity. Lombard tallied another three-pointer just before
Grace Burns took a charge and drilled a three in the ensuing play. After a fast-paced and efficient half, Oberlin headed to the locker room up 53-26.
Returning to the court, the Yeowomen battled with the Fighting Scots as Wooster looked to make a dent in the Oberlin lead. Behind nine Crimson and Gold scorers, the home team rallied to outscore Wooster 22-17. Up 75-43 at the begging of the fourth quarter, Lombard aimed from behind the arch to hit her eighth three of the night just 13 seconds before her ninth to set the new program record for most three-pointers in a game. The Yeowomen rode out the rest of the game behind jumpers from
Jasmine Roberts and Burns before
Anora Lee put in the final floating jump shot to push the Yeowomen over the 100-point threshold for a 100-65 final.
The 100 points are the most scored by Oberlin this season and account for the most points scored in a game since January 2002 when the Yeowomen took down Hiram 102-47.
The Crimson and Gold look to keep the wins coming when they hit the road for their next matchup against Hiram on Wednesday, February 8. Tip-off for the road contest is set for 2pm with
