Hiram, Ohio- For the fifth season in a row, the Oberlin College women's basketball team defeated Hiram 2-0 in the regular season, securing the sweep with a 64-47 win over the Terriers on Wednesday night. First-year
Angela Kumler tallied her first career double-double in the win with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Yeowomen improve to 7-4 in the conference and 14-8 overall.
The standout rookie added another four steals and a pair of assists to her double-double while
Camille Zinaich led the team with 13 points.
The Terriers opened the game with a 5-0 run before Zinaich strung together four points to cut the lead. A jumper from
Jaedyn O'Reilly just seconds later out the Crimson and Gold up 6-5 as the Yeowomen cruised to a 17-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Oberlin defense held Hiram wireless through the meat of the second quarter, extending their lead to 14 behind jumpers from
Katherine Csiszar and Kumler and a three-pointer from
Gina Lombard. Only allowing points from the charity stripe in the final minutes, Oberlin sat ahead 36-13 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room with a new game plan, the Terriers came alive in the second half behind Brooke Hickman's six points to outscore Oberlin 13-11. Sill securely in the lead at the start of the final quarter, Zinaich added another pair of insurance jumpers to extend the Yeowomen's advantage to 54-31. Oberlin held off the hungry home team to win 64-47.
