Sandusky, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team opened its spring schedule against the 23rd ranked Tartans of Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 6-3 affair at Court 1 Tennis in Sandusky, Ohio.

The Yeomen headed into singles action trailing 2-1, picking up a win in the second flight as the tandem of Sean Billerbeck and Rohan Gold took down the duo of Jonathan Nottingham and Jaden D'Abreo, 8-4.

Billerbeck earned a signature win in singles play as he set aside the Atlantic South Region's 10th-ranked player in Matthew Poh by the scores of 6-1 and 7-5 in the top flight.

First-year Shawn Lisann added a three-set victory in the fourth position as he outlasted Akshay Joshi by the scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

The No. 2 and 3 bouts were also closely contested but the Tartans came out on top in both battles. In the second slot, Gold went the distance against Nicholas Wernink as he dropped the first set 6-4 before winning the second by a 6-2 count only to fall 6-1 in the third.  In the third position, Sebastien Naginski fell 6-3 in the first and then finished on the wrong end of a second-set tiebreak, 7-6 (6-4).

The Yeomen are back in action next Saturday as they play host to Kalamazoo College at 2 p.m.
