Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Bows Out of the NCAC Tournament

Wooster, Ohio - The eighth-seeded Oberlin College men's basketball team put forth a valiant effort against the top-seeded Scots of Wooster in the opening round of the NCAC Tournament but in the end it wasn't enough as the Yeomen fell 92-77 on Tuesday night to cap off their 2022-23 season.

Four Yeomen finished in double figures, led by sophomore Will Bousquette III with 16 points. Playing in his final game, senior Dorde Otasevic added 13 points and six rebounds to end his illustrious career with 854 points and 492 boards in three seasons of action. Anastasis Spyroglou matched Otasevic with 13 points, while rookie Adam Navarre wrapped up his strong finish to the season with 12 points.

The Yeomen played the Scots tough throughout the bulk of the first half, claiming their first lead of the night on a fastbreak layup from Spyroglou that made it 18-17 at the 10:22 mark. A Bousquette jumper later increased the Yeomen cushion out to four, 23-19, but back-to-back triple-hits from the Scots put them back out front with just under seven minutes left in the frame.

A long-range connection from Otasevic had the Yeomen within five, 36-31, with 3:20 left in the half but Wooster closed the session strong and ultimately carried a 43-34 advantage into the intermission.

Wooster would open up a 16-point lead early in the second half but the Yeomen refused to back down without a fight. Oberlin was trailing 63-49 with under 12 minutes to go, but then authored a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to trim the deficit all the way down to just three at 65-62. The burst featured 3-pointers from Otasevic and Radusinovic, and five points from Bousquette.

After an Elijah Meredith three halted the run, Navarre answered right back with one of his three 3-pointers in the game to make it a 68-65 Scots' advantage with 8:25 still left to expire.

Unfortunately, the Yeomen would go cold from there as the Scots would hold Oberlin without a field goal for over five minutes as they ballooned the lead out to 18 and never looked back. A Navarre jumper would finally stop the drought at the 3:14 mark but it was too little too late for the Yeomen.

The Yeomen shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor, which included an impressive 14-of-28 showing from beyond the arc. The Scots, who were led by Carter Warstler's 25 points off the bench, finished at 44.6 (33-of-74) overall and went 17-of-42 (40.5%) from distance.

Oberlin concluded its season under first-year head coach Shiva Senthil at 8-18 and 4-12 in the NCAC.
