Oberlin, Ohio- In their final home game of the regular season, the Oberlin College women's basketball team took down NCAC rival Kenyon by 20 points for an 84-64 final. The Crimson and Gold improve to 15-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference ahead of their regular season finale.
At the helm of a trio of Obies who finished in double-digits,
Alyson Jefferson notched 19 points ahead of
Camille Zinaich who tallied 15 points and nine rebounds. Setting a career-best in assists,
Gina Lombard got off eight passes for baskets while adding another eight points and five rebounds. Also finishing in double-digits was
Jaedyn O'Reilly with 11 points and six rebounds.
With a pair of quick layups,
Bryana Woodard got the Yeowomen on the scoreboard early. The Owls responded with two tying buckets before Kenyon's Mikayla Rudolph hit a three-pointer to take the lead.
Gina Lombard responded with a trey of her own to set up a 12-2 Crimson and Gold run to take a 21-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
Bringing the energy to the second quarter, Kenyon opened with an 11-6 run to cut down Oberlin's lead to three. The Owls continued to creep back into the game, bringing the score to 33-32 in the final minute. Needing to extend their lead before time expired,
Katherine Csiszar nailed a jumper to push Oberlin back to a two-score lead of 38-34 before the buzzer.
Woodard got the half going with a quick tip-in layup as Oberlin looked to continue the momentum from the second quarter. From there on it was all Crimson and Gold as Jefferson led the climb over Kenyon. Up 56-42, the lockdown defense of the Yeowomen held the Owls off the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter as Zinaich put up another four points.
Starting final quarter of play,
Lily Najmulski drilled a long three-pointer before O'Reilly drove for a layup. Maintaining their 20-point lead, the Yeowomen cruised through the final quarter hitting 10-17 from the field and 4-8 from behind the arch. The fourth quarter marked the highest scoring period for the Crimson and Gold with 24 points to push Oberlin to the 84-64 victory.
