Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Wittenberg in Regular Season Finale

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team failed to find a rhythm on Saturday afternoon at Wittenberg University, falling 68-51 to the Tigers to cap off the 2022-23 regular season.

Camille Zinaich was the lone Yeowoman to reach double figures as she finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting in just 14 minutes of action. Angela Kumler chipped in nine points, while Grace Burns and Bryana Woodard each posted six tallies in the loss.

The opening frame was tightly contested with Oberlin grabbing the early the advantage as a Ziniach jumper made it 11-6 at the 5:51 mark. A Kumler triple-hit later gave Oberlin a 17-15 lead with 3:13 left in the quarter but the Tigers would close the session with seven straight points to grab a 22-17 cushion after 10 minutes of play.

Unfortunately, the Yeowomen cold spell would continue into the second quarter as they mustered just six points in the frame to allow the Tigers to build up 37-23 halftime advantage.

The Tigers didn't let their foot off the gas in the third period – outscoring Oberlin 20-11 in the stanza to carry a 57-34 lead going in the fourth and never looking back.

Oberlin was plagued by 20 turnovers that led to 26 points for the Tigers while shooting just 31.3 percent (15-of-48) from the floor, which included a 4-of-18 (22.2%) showing from distance.

Despite the result, Oberlin (15-10, 8-6 NCAC) still finished as the No. 4 seed for the upcoming NCAC Tournament and will host No. 5 Denison on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
