Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night for a conference matchup with Ohio Wesleyan. The Yeowomen came up short as the Battling Bishops stamped a commanding victory over Oberlin 87-35, to earn the series sweep. The Yeowomen fall to 5-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 12-8 overall.
Oberlin's
Camille Zinaich got the Yeowomen off to a strong start with a layup and an 'and one' shot before
Alyson Jefferson continued the scoring with a jumper of her own. The Battling Bishops responded with a 14-0 run until Ziniach again broke the momentum with a layup. Unwavering, OWU continued their rampage, holding Oberlin off the scoreboard and going up 20-7 at the end of the quarter.
Getting off on the right foot again for the beginning of the second quarter,
Jaedyn O'Reilly drilled a three-pointer in the early second to cut the lead to ten. OWU responded with yet another double-digit run the pushed their lead to 20.
Angela Kumler got in on the action with a long shot from behind the arch as they Yeowomen battled back.
Gina Lombard put in the final basket of the quarter as the the home team staved off the vistors for a 44-19 lead at the half.
Lombard tried to maintain the first half momentum with another three in an early third quarter possession, but the Bishops continued to be too much for the Crimson and Gold. Down by 25 midway through the quarter,
Jasmine Roberts went 2-2 at the charity stripe minutes before
Ellie Pollock-Ballard sunk a jumper. Senior
Taylor Sanchez hit the final shot of the quarter as the Yeowomen tried to stay in the game.
The fourth quarter was all OWU until
Kendal McCall put Oberlin on the board with a jump shot. The pair of points was the only basket scored by Oberlin in the final quarter as they fell to Ohio Wesleyan, 87-35.
The Crimson and Gold bring the game home this Saturday, February 4 as they look for their second series sweep of the season. Tip off against Wooster is set for 2pm with
