Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Sting Yellow Jackets

Defiance, OH - The Oberlin College men's basketball team turned in a commanding 80-58 victory at Defiance College on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Anastasis Spyroglou led the Yeomen offense with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in just 13 minutes off the bench, while rookie JJ Gray added 13 points. Milun Micanovic chipped in 10 points and nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds.

The Yeomen jumped all over the Yellow Jackets from the onset, opening up a 13-4 lead on a Gray layup with 13:03 left to play in the first half. Defiance battled back to get within one, 15-14, at the midway point of the session but the Yeomen would reclaim control and lead by as many as 16 before settling for a 43-34 halftime advantage.

Oberlin asserted its dominance in the second half, ballooning the lead out to 20, 58-38, with 14:32 left to play. A Zach Bronson layup swelled the Yeomen cushion out to 68-40 with just over 10 minutes to play and Defiance would never really threaten the eventual outcome.

The Yeomen won the rebounding battle 43-31 and also finished with a 50-22 advantage in points in the paint. Oberlin cashed in 19 points off of 16 Defiance turnovers and had 19-4 edge in fastbreak points.

Oberlin shot 50.8 percent from the floor with 32 makes on 62 attempts, while its stingy defense held Defiance to a 36.7 percent clip (22-of-60).

The Yeomen, who have won three straight to run their record to 4-3, open conference play at Wittenberg on Wednesday night. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m.
