Kumler Notches Double-Double in Victory over Mount Union

ALLIANCE, OH - Angela Kumler secured her first career double-double as the Oberlin College women's basketball team took down Mount Union on the road Tuesday night. In the 75-54 victory, Kumler tallied 22 points and 14 rebounds to help the Yeowomen remain undefeated. Oberlin improves to a perfect 5-0 ahead of their next road match against Penn State - Behrend on Sunday, November 26.

The Crimson and Gold had four players score in double figures, led by Kumler and followed by Gina Lombard, who tacked on 15 points and two steals. Alyson Jefferson chipped in as well with 13 points, five assists and a pair of steals.

Oberlin took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Tuesday's game, piling up 18 assists on 27 made field goals. Oberlin did a great job disrupting the Purple Raiders' shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks. Krystal Montas led the way individually for the Yeowomen with five rejections.


How It Happened

After falling behind 2-0, Oberlin went on a 20-0 run with 6:56 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jefferson. Although losing some of that lead, Oberlin still entered the quarter break with a 23-7 advantage. Oberlin relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 23 points.

Oberlin kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 8:16 mark in the second period. A three from Ellie Pollock-Ballard increased its lead to 29-13. The Purple Raiders cut into that lead, but the Yeowomen still enjoyed a 39-27 advantage heading into halftime. Oberlin was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 16 points.

Following intermission, Oberlin continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 51-35 before going on a 7-0 run to extend its lead further to 58-35 with 34 seconds to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Purple Raiders had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Yeowomen still entered the fourth quarter with a 58-38 edge. Oberlin took advantage of six Mount Union turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Oberlin kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Lily Najmulski's jumper, to grow the lead to 67-40 with 6:38 to go in the contest. The Purple Raiders narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Yeowomen still cruised the rest of the way for the 75-54 win. Oberlin fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.
