Yeomen Drop Home Opener to Otterbein

Oberlin, OH -- Milun Micanovic and Anastasis Spyroglou combined for 41 points but it wasn't enough as the sharp-shooting Otterbein University Cardinals came to Philips Gym and left town with a 92-69 victory over the Yeomen on Wednesday night.

Micanovic finished with a career-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting and added a game-high eight rebounds in the loss. Spyroglou was the only other Yeoman to finish in double figures as he dropped in 20 points on a 7-of-16 showing while dishing out a team-high five assists. Dimitrije Radusinovic chipped in with nine points and seven boards for the Yeomen.

Near the midway point of the first half, a mini 6-0 spurt that featured a pair of buckets from Micanovic and a put-back layup from Spyroglou gave the Yeomen a 16-13 advantage. Oberlin would later grab a 23-19 cushion at the 9:23 mark on a floater from Will Bousquette III

The Cardinals would eventually take control, claiming a 42-35 lead with 2:42 still to play in the session and would ultimately settle for a 46-42 halftime edge.

Oberlin stayed within striking distance for the bulk of the second half as a follow from Micanovic had the Yeomen within three, 63-60, with just under 11 minutes to play. After the Cards went up by as many as 11, it was Micanovic again who had them on the doorstep down 74-67 with 5:32 to go.

Unfortunately, the Yeomen would go ice cold, scoring just two more points the rest of the way as the Cardinals pulled away for the commanding win.

2023 NCAC Player of the Jack Clement, who grad-transferred from Ohio Wesleyan, led all scorers with 22 points, while Brock Waits poured in 16 off the Otterbein bench. As a team, the Cards shot 62.7 percent (37-of-59), which included an impressive 10-of-19 display from beyond the arc for a 52.9 percent success rate.

Oberlin made 29-of-69 shots for a 42 percent clip and connected on just 4-of-15 triple-tries (26.7%) in the setback. However, OC did outscore Otterbein 48-38 in the paint and had a 27-7 advantage on second-chance points.

The loss dropped Oberlin 1-2 while Otterbein moved to 2-0.

The Yeomen have a short turnaround as they head east to Messiah University for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, starting with SeaGulls of Salisbury at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
