How it Happened
Oberlin got moving right away, traveling with the ball up to their attacking end in the early minutes of the match. Unable to come away with a shot, the Yeowomen ran back on defense to block the Gators' first shot of the game. It was at the 11:27 mark that
Elly Scheer took the Yeowomen's first shot, sending the ball wide of the net.
In the second period, Allegheny doubled down on their attack, earning five penalty corners. The Crimson and Gold matched the offense, holding the Gators to just one shot and scoreless at the half.
In the first 40 seconds of the third period, Oberlin earned a penalty corner to be taken by Robinson-Cloete. Sending the ball straight to Scheer, the second-year defender sent a rocket into the back of the net to put the Yeowomen on the board first. Unfortunately for the home team, the goal was called off due to a foul, and the game remained tied at 0-0. Just six minutes later, Allegheny ping-ponged the ball inside their arch before tapping it past
Janny McCormick.
Up 1-0 heading into the final period, the Gators looked for an insurance goal with a pair of fast-break shots on cage. McCormick met the attacker nearly ten yards ahead of the goal line to slide and make back-to-back saves. Oberlin made one last attempt to score an equalizer with a shot sent in from the top of the arch off the stick of
Bella Tilford. The Crimson and Gold were unable to find the net in the final minutes of the match and dropped to 1-0 conference challenge.
