Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team travelled south to Central Ohio to take on their NCAC rival, the Denison Big Red, on Saturday afternoon. With three players in double-digits, Oberlin took down Denison 69-55 to move to an undefeated 2-0 in the NCAC and 9-4 on the season.
Both
Alyson Jefferson and
Bryana Woodard put up 14 points while the do combined for three rebounds and four assists. Woodard added another three blocks while Jefferson tallied a pair of steals. Also putting up double figures and an even stat line was
Gina Lombard with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
As the conference action got underway, Oberlin's
Bryana Woodard struck first after getting a pass from
Jaedyn O'Reilly for the team's first points. The Big Red responded immediately, and the back-and-forth rival game caught wind. After coming up even 14-14 in the first period, the Yeowomen found their rhythm and finished the half on a 10-1 run beginning and ending with three-pointers from
Alyson Jefferson and
Gina Lombard.
With a lead and momentum headed into the second half, the Crimson and Gold continued their game plan as O'Reilly hit back-to-back jumpers, bringing the score to 35-23. They Yeowomen maintained their double-digit lead into the final quarter of action with Jefferson hitting a pair of shots from the charity stripe in the opening seconds. Oberlin doubled down on defense, allowing only four points from the Big Red until the 1:16 mark to bring the 69-55 win home.
The Crimson and Gold's 14-point victory over their NCAC foe is the team's eighth win this season that has come by double-digits.
The Yeowomen look to keep their conference win streak alive as they bring the games home in their next contest against Hiram on Thursday, January 12.
