Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball remained undefeated in conference action after taking down Hiram, 79-48, on Thursday night.
Alyson Jefferson led the way with 18 points as the Crimson and Gold improve to 10-4 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the NCAC.
In addition to the Jefferson's points, the junior tallied a career-high six assists, four rebounds, and four steals. The high-scoring matchup featured 11 different Obies scored in the conference matchup with 31 of the team's points coming off the bench.
The Terriers gave the Yeowomen trouble from the tip, but a layup from
Bryana Woodard was the first of eight unanswered points to secure an Oberlin lead. Hiram climbed back within two points of the lead but were unable to match the intensity of the Yeowomen as Oberlin finished the quarter on a 10-2 run and up 22-12.
The Yeowomen offense came alive in the second quarter, outscoring their opponent 29-2 while shooting 24-41 from the field. A clutch trey from
Maggie Balderstone commenced an 11-0 run that capped on a layup from Woodard. The Crimson and Gold defense shined as well in the second period, holding Hiram scoreless until a pair of free throws at the 6:11 mark.
The Terriers scored only one basket during the entirety of the second quarter. Oberlin waltzed into the locker room up 51-18.
Down by an astounding 33 points, Hiram's offense perked up for a couple early baskets, but the power of the Yeowomen was too strong as Oberlin continued its offensive rampage. Six different Obies scored with Jefferson leading the pack. Up 65-31 extended the lead with back-to-back jumpers before
Jasmine Roberts moved the lead further with a layup.
The Yeowomen continued to steam roll the Terriers over the final minutes of action for a final score of 79-48. The Crimson and Gold's 31-point victory comes as the second win by 30 points or more and their ninth win by double-digits.
The Yeowomen look to keep rolling through conference action as they take on rival Ohio Wesleyan this Saturday, January 14. These two teams last met in the semifinals of the NCAC Tournament where the Battling Bishops took down the Yeowomen.
