Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team traveled south to Central Ohio to take on the Denison Big Red, on Wednesday night. The Crimson and Gold came up on the losing end of a 91-79 score line, moving their conference record to 5-14 and 1-9 overall.
Will Bousquette III put together a career-high performance with 23 points on five three pointers, five rebounds, and five assists while
Dorde Otasevic snuck in another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Yeomen started off the game with a bang as
Andrew Gannon pulled up for a quick three-pointer. Continuing this momentum, Oberlin put away another layup for an early five-point lead. Bousquette III added to the action with another shot from behind the arch, before
Dorde Otasevic and
Anastasis Spyroglou also hit threes.
The Yeomen's first half lead continued well into the final minutes, thanks to consecutive three-pointers from Bousquette and a hefty defensive effort that held Denison scoreless for 4:30. Coming out of a timeout, the Big Red reset in a big way and put up 13-straight points, holding the Yeomen scoreless. As the final seconds ticked away, Oberlin put another three points on the board but trail at the half 43-34.
Coming out of the locker room, Denison opened the half with a 14-0 run before Otasevic ended the drought with a layup. Down 57-36, the Yeomen tried to climb back in the game with
Milun Micanovic and Otasevic leading a 10-3 run to shrink the score gap.
Trying to stay alive in the match,
Yuuki Okubo picked up another six points for Oberlin, but the Big Red proved just too much for the Crimson and Gold as they continued to move ahead on the scoreboard. Bousquette led a late-game run to bring the team within ten, but Denison maintained their lead as Dan Rubin tallied 45 points in the defeat of the Yeomen.
Oberlin brings it home for their next game on Saturday, January 28 as they host Wooster in a doubleheader with the women's team.
