Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball got back to their winning ways with a definitive victory over the Kenyon Owls. The Yeowomen defeated their NCAC rivals 72-59 with an impressive return performance by
Bryana Woodard. Oberlin improves to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
The sophomore forward, Woodard, tallied a team-high 18 with another five rebounds and a steal. Behind top-scorer was
Gina Lombard who hit a trio of three to finish with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Alyson Jefferson also finished in double-digits with 11 points.
The Owls got on the board first, but a successful three-point play form Lombard got the Yeowomen back on track. The two foes maintained a back-and-forth battle before Oberlin scored the final seven points of the quarter for a 17-13 advantage.
The momentum for the Crimson and Gold continued as
Anora Lee got the second period started with a layup and a point off the ensuing foul. Midway through, Woodard put together a string of five points to secure an eight-point lead over Kenyon. The Yeowomen maintained their position as the teams hit halftime, Oberlin up 39-31.
Coming out of the half, Oberlin caught fire immediately with 13-straight points. Kenyon responded with a couple jump shots, but it wasn't enough as the Yeowomen continued to battle in the paint for a 15-point lead at the final quarter. Oberlin's lead was only threatened once when Kenyon closed the gap to nine after a 6-0 run, but back-to-back layups from Woodard shut down the run and secured the 72-59 victory.
