Greencastle, Indiana – Hitting the road to take on the DePauw Tigers, the Oberlin College men's basketball team stumbled as they came up on the losing end of a 76-67 score. Oberlin moves to 4-11 on the year and 0-6 in the conference as the woes continue for the Yeomen.
Leading the scoring drive for the Crimson and Gold offense was
Dorde Otasevic with 24 points, with a career-high six three-pointers. The senior added another six rebounds, three assists, and a block.
Getting off to a strong start,
Yuuki Okubo and Otasevic set the Yeomen on the right path with a pair of baskets to notch an early lead. Right off the tails of the veteran ballers,
Will Bousquette III hit a three to extend the Oberlin lead. Midway through the half, the Tigers let loose on a 10-2 run to pull ahead of the Yeomen. DePauw looked to close the half with a double-digit lead over Oberlin, but
Cole Otley drilled a three-pointer in the final seconds to bring the score to 36-27.
Coming off the bench in the second half, Oberlin's
Asaan Snipes-Rea tallied six of the team's first ten points as the team battled to keep the game close. After coming within as little as five points at the 12:46 mark, Oberlin gave up 12 unanswered points to fall behind 59-42. A layup from
Andrew Gannon with 7:14 to go halted the Tigers' run, as Oberlin flipped the script and responded with a 14-4 run of their own. Still down 65-58, the Crimson and Gold tried to mount a comeback but too little too late, the Yeomen ultimately fell to the Tigers 76-67.
Hitting the court again this weekend, the Yeomen join the Yeowomen in their first double header of 2023 as they take on the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on January 14. With the women's game set for 1pm, the men tip off at 3pm
