Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team improved to 3-1 on the young season with a straight-set victory over the visiting Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night. Oberlin took care of business by the scores of 25-23, 25-12, 25-9.
Oberlin was in system throughout the affair, hitting an impressive .419 as a team with 40 kills against just eight errors. The Yeowomen also dropped in a season-high 12 aces to aid the effort.
Reigning NCAC Player of the Week
Cami Sweet led the attack with 11 kills, while
Zeynep Kaya and
Lauren Sands finished with 10 and nine, respectively.
Taylor Gwynne had the offense in rhythm, dishing out 36 assists in the win.
First-year
Jillian Jendsen led the back row with 15 digs and dropped in a game-high five aces.
The first set was nip-and-tuck throughout and was tied at 23 late but a Waynesburg miscue led to a game-clinching kill from Sweet.
Oberlin used that momentum and never looked back, holding thing the Yellow Jackets to just 21 points over the final two sets as they hit just .040 and -.321 in each stanza.
The Yeowomen are back in action this Friday at Olivet College to open up the NCAC-MIAA Challenge. The first serve against the Comets is at 7 p.m.
