Meadville, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory at Allegheny College on Wednesday afternoon to open the North Coast Athletic Conference East slate.
The Yeomen picked up all three doubles points, which proved to be the difference in the end. The first and third flights were absolute grinds with each Yeomen tandem fending off match-point to win in a tiebreak. The top duo of
James Dill and
Grant North got by Anton Hedlund and Julien Voisey 8-6 in the tiebreak while Oberlin's No. 3 pairing of
Sebastien Naginski and
Sam Topper outlasted Wonjoon Cho and David Salazar II 9-7 in their overtime round.
It was much easier in the second position as
Sean Billerbeck and
Rohan Gold cruised past Adam Shinomiya and Fabrizzio Reategui by an 8-1 count.
Billerbeck and Dill each dropped three-set affairs in the top two singles battles but the Yeomen were victorious in flights three through five to secure the victory.
Gold made short work of Wonjoon Cho at No. 3 with matching 6-1 triumphs while Topper also didn't have too much trouble getting by Reategui at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Naginski finished off Oberlin's winning ways with a 6-2, 6-1 thrashing of Will Jarvie at No. 5.
The victory marked the third straight for the Yeomen as they are now 6-9 on the year.
Oberlin will be back in action on Saturday, taking on No. 24 at 1 p.m.
