Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 1 ranked Marietta College Pioneers earned an 11-1 win over the Oberlin College baseball team on Thursday afternoon at Dill Field.
The Yeomen were victimized by a six-run fifth inning that broke the game open as Brett Carson delivered the big blow of the inning with a three-run home run over the wall in left, to mark his third round-tripper of the day.
Sophomore
Andrew Shen (0-1) made his first-career start on the bump and battled his way through 4.2 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits and four walks to go along with one strikeout.
Marietta posted a single tally in the first and would get a pair of solo shots from Carson in the second and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Carson finished 4-for-4 with a walk and five RBIs.
Oberlin registered six hits and stranded nine runners on base.
Alex Vaughan led the Yeomen with two hits while their lone run of the game came on one swing of the bat as
John Schooner belted his first-career home run over the wall in left in the seventh inning.
Gino Sabatine (5-1) worked the front six innings for the Pioneers as he did not surrender a run on four hits and two walks.
Marietta moved to 32-3 while the Yeomen fell back to 7-22.
Oberlin returns to action on Saturday afternoon at Kenyon College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon.
