Oberlin, OH- Tied at the half, the Oberlin women's lacrosse team more than doubled their score in the ensuing quarter to defeat Ohio Wesleyan 11-7. The win improves the Yeowomen to 6-8 on the season and 2-3 in the NCAC.
Â
A pair of Obies set new career highs as midfielder
Ellie Jensen brought in seven ground balls and goalkeeper
Logan McDermott-Mostowy tallied 15 saves. Guiding the Oberlin offense,
Lauren Mills and
Abigail Patchen each earned a hat trick while also chipping in a pair of assists each.
Â
The Yeowomen got the game off the ground as Patchen found
Reilly Jackman inside the eight for the first score. The Bishops dominated the rest of the quarter, shutting out the Crimson and Gold while putting up a trio of goals themselves. The roles reversed as the second period got underway with the Yeowomen outscoring OWU 3-1 with goals coming from
Izzy Sunday and Mills. A late save by McDermott-Mostowy kept the Bishops from retaking the lead as the half expired.
Â
As the second half got moving, Patchen took advantage of a man-up opportunity for Oberlin's first lead since the opening quarter. Starting with a goal at the 5:06 mark, the Yeowomen scored twice more in the ensuing 63 seconds to take a 9-5 lead over Ohio Wesleyan. After putting up five goals in the third quarter, the Yeowomen never looked back as Patchen and Mills found the back of the net for a pair of insurance goals to secure the 11-7 victory.
