Meadville, PA- Travelling to Pennsylvania to take on Allegheny, the Oberlin's women's lacrosse team fell behind early against the Gators. Overcome by the Allegheny offense, the Yeowomen lost 22-12 behind an otherwise stellar day for senior
Bette Imhoff. The captain put up seven points highlighted by six goals as the Crimson and Gold move to 4-7 on the season and 0-2 in NCAC action.
Â
The New Hampshire native not only led the offense but also paved the way for the defense with a team-high four ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Izzy Sunday was the only other player to score in double digits with three goals and adding a pair of ground balls to the affair. In cage,
Logan McDermott-Mostowy made seven saves in the first half before
Sophia Ferrantelli stepped in for another five saves in half two.
Â
The Gators got going right off the first draw, putting away two goals in the first two minutes. Oberlin responded with a pair of their own, coming off the sticks of
Emily Shimabukuro and Imhoff. The Yeowomen were unable to score again until the final :35 when
Ellie Jensen found Imhoff for a goal. The second quarter was much more balanced with the two teams swapping goals early, but with four-straight goals coming from Allegheny, Oberlin found themselves down 14-7 at the half.
Â
Oberlin struggled to find offensive momentum in the second half but finally gave way to an Imhoff goal at the 7:20 mark. The home team responded with another four goals to give them a double-digit lead. Faced with a running clock, Oberlin's
Abigail Patchen fed a pass to Sunday to stop the clock and narrow the lead to nine. Although moving with a sense of urgency, the Yeowomen were unable to fill the deficit and ultimately fell to Allegheny 22-12.
