Softball Sweep Chatham in Heavy Hitting Day

Oberlin, OH- The Oberlin College softball team earned their second season sweep of the season as they took down Chatham in a double header battle on Wednesday night. The Yeowomen stormed the field offensively beating the Cougars 9-5 in game one and won 13-8 in game two. The Crimson and Gold swingers put up 32 hits and 22 runs over the two games. The Yeowomen move to 6-8-1 ahead of their NCAC opener this Saturday.

Alaina Di Dio earned the start for the Yeowomen but after struggling to find the strike zone, Calliope Lissak stepped into the circle. The first-year hurler pitched just over four innings pitching one strikeout and allowing only three runs. The starter came back in for the final inning and change to close the game and help Lissak earn her first win of the season.

The Cougars came out strong against the Yeowomen, bringing home a pair of runners to open the inning. Oberlin failed to respond until the bottom of the second inning when the Crimson and Gold got on the board with a double from Mia Brito to bring Lalli Lopez home. The Yeowomen offense finally got rolling in the bottom of the fourth as Jess Friedman hit a double to bring home both Lopez and Caley Dunlop. After a single RBI by Haley Bartsch tied the game, Cat Moruzzi gave Oberlin the lead on her 50th career RBI. The Yeowomen put up another three runs to extend their lead to 8-4 ahead of the fifth inning. The Cougars looked to challenge the home team but, only able to out up one more run, ultimately fell 9-5 in game one.

Starting in the circle for game two, Liz Laudicina got Oberlin moving before relief from Katie Austin in the third inning.

got the start in the second game, pitching three innings before Di Dio stepped back in to close. The duo put up four strikeouts including a strikeout looking from Di Dio.

Moruzzi got game two started for the Yeowomen with a double to center field, bringing Bartsch around the bases for the first score of the game. Without a response from Chatham, Oberlin kept rolling with another seven scores in the second inning. The Cougars finally found momentum in the third as they put up four to cut into the Yeowomen's lead. The struggles continued for Oberlin as Chatham put up another trio of runs to come within five of Oberlin. A late comeback by the Cougars was held off to complete the sweep for the Crimson and Gold.

The Yeowomen hit the road for their next double header as they break open conference action against DePauw on April 2. The away game will start at 1pm with the second game following at 3pm.
