Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Yeowomen Earn First Home Win of the Year

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team stopped a five-game skid and earned its first home win of the season, defeating the visiting Thiel College Tomcats, 12-11, on a wintry Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

Five different Oberlin players scored in the game, led by a Reilly Jackman who recorded a career-high five goals in the win to go along with one assist. Emily Shimabukuro added three scores while Abigail Patchen chipped in two tallies for Oberlin.

The Yeowomen posted six first-quarter goals and led 6-2 after the first 15-minute frame, but the Tomcats blanked Oberlin in the second quarter and ultimately trimmed the game down to just one at 6-5 early in the third quarter. However, Oberlin responded with six straight scores to retake control of the game.  The scoring barrage was started by three straight scores from Jackman before Patchen and Alexis Escobedo got into the mix. Jackman's 10th tally of the season would give Oberlin a 12-5 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.

However, a critical non-releasable penalty on Oberlin early in the fourth quarter led to four straight man-up goals by the Tomcats and Destiny Johnson would later follow with a free-position goal at the 6:36 mark to shrink the deficit all the way down two at 12-10.

Things got real dicey as Johnson scored again with 98 ticks left to expire but a Thiel green card resulted in Oberlin starting with possession and the Yeowomen were able to milk the clock to secure the victory.

Logan McDermott-Mostowy and Sophia Ferrantelli split time in goal with each player making two saves.

Oberlin finished with an 34-1 advantage in shots, which included a 26-15 edge in shots on goal. The Yeowomen also won the ground ball battle 33-16.
The victory ran the Yeowomen's record to 3-5 on the year, while Thiel dropped back to 2-2.

Oberlin will open up conference play on Saturday, April 2 against The College of Wooster. The opening draw is set for 4:30 p.m.
