Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Albion

Albion, MI- The Oberlin College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over MIAA rival Albion College on Monday afternoon. The Yeowomen took game one by a score of 11-2 before shutting the Brits out in game two, 3-0. The sweep improves the Crimson and Gold to 4-5 on the season.
 
Earning the start in the opening game, Alaina Di Dio pitched the entire six innings before the Yeowomen run-ruled the Brits. Di Dio recorded five strikeouts and without allowing any walks.
 
After giving up the first run of the game in the home of the first, Oberlin took a 2-1 lead in the third, scoring a pair of runs with two outs on RBI singles by Loren Carter and Kyra Davis.

The Yeowomen would then erupt for five runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Loren Carter three-run home run. Albion scratched one across in the bottom of the frame but Yeowomen put the game away with four scores in the following inning, headlined by RBI singles from Lalli Lopez and Kathryn Beeman. With the Brits unable to score in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Yeowomen earned the run-rule victory in game one. 
 
Katie Austin locked down toed the rubber for game two, throwing a complete-game three-hit shutout, marking the first blanking of the year for the Yeowomen. Austin threw the entirety of the seven innings, totaling only 75 pitches.
 
A lower-scoring affair for the Crimson and Gold, Carter got Oberlin on the board with a double to center field, bringing in Cat Moruzzi to put Oberlin ahead 1-0 in the top of the third. Anna Slebonick sent a ball over the fence in the fifth for her second home run of the season to make it 2-0. The final run of the day came off the bat of Slebonick in the sixth,, this time bringing Caley Dunlop around the bases with a two-out single to center to cap the game's scoring.

The Yeomen take a short break before returning to action on Thursday, March 24 as they travel across town to John Carroll. The first pitch is sert for 3:30 p.m. with the second game beginning at 5:30pm.
