Columbus, OH- The woes of the Oberlin women's lacrosse team continued on Saturday afternoon as the Yeowomen lost against the Capital Comets. The 24-11 setback is the second largest loss of the season for Oberlin and moves their record to 2-4 overall.
Â
Leading the scoring for Oberlin,
Bette Imhoff earned a hat trick in the game followed by
Emily Shimabukuro and
Lauren Mills with a pair of goals each. The New Hampshire native also chipped in four ground balls and a team-high six draw controls. Holding down the defense were a trio of goalies for Oberlin, guided by
Logan McDermott-Mostowy with 11 saves and the start.
Sophia Ferrantelli and
Frances Wilson also entered the game and combined for another three saves.
Â
Oberlin's Imhoff got off to a hot start in the beginning of the game, scoring her first goal just 19 seconds in. Capital quickly responded before Mills found
Annie Payne to even the score. Once tied, the Comets began an eight-goal run only interrupted by a Mills score. Imhoff capped off the lopsided quarter to bring the score to 10-4.
Â
A slower quarter than the first, Imhoff chipped in her third goal at the beginning before Capital put away another three goals to extend their lead to eight.
Alexis Escobedo and
Ellie Jensen slowed the burn with a pair of goals, but the Comets held off the Yeowomen for a double-digit lead at the half.
Â
Three goals came from the Comets to open the third quarter until the final minutes when
Abigail Patchen connected with the net for her first goal of the game. Exactly one minute later, Patchen found Shimabukuro to close out the third period. With victory out of reach for the Yeowomen, both Shimabukuro and Mills tallied another goal before the last whistle, for a final score of 24-11.
