Oberlin, OH- Opening their home season, the Oberlin women's lacrosse team dropped a tight matchup against regionally ranked John Carroll on Wednesday night. The Yeowomen had eight players find the back of the net in the 18-16 loss, moving the record to 2-3 overall.

Senior captains
Annie Payne and
Bette Imhoff paced the way for the squad as each earned a hat trick on the evening, while Payne chipped in six draw controls. Audrey also oiled the offensive engine with a pair of goals and assists.

On the defense,
Ellie Jensen,
Kaela Wilson, and first-year
Campbell Kohls all brought in three groundballs each in addition to causing a trio of turnovers. Earning the start in cage,
Logan McDermott-Mostowy tallied six saves in the first half before
Sophia Ferrantelli subbed in to add on another 11 stops.

The Crimson and Gold got off to a hot start, rocking off three goals right away to open the quarter. The Blue Streaks responded with a pair of goals but Payne, Jensen, and Imhoff put away another trio of goals before the quarter finished. Making adjustments during the break, JCU came back with a pair of early scores before
Reilly Jackman found an open
Audrey Koren to extend the Yeowomen lead to four. John Carroll scored again quickly after and continued to chip away to bring Oberlin's advantage down to one at the end of the half.

The Blue Streaks' attack persisted into the second half, adding another five goals and taking the lead until
Maya Blevins scored on a free position goal to end the drought. Oberlin and John Carroll went goal-for-goal into the final quarter of action, with the Yeowomen coming within two of the Blue Streaks' lead. JCU's momentum from their third quarter onslaught pushed the visitors to victory as the Crimson and Gold were unable to match the high-scoring offense for a final score of 18-15.

Oberlin will look to rebound from the loss when they travel to Capital for a midday matchup. The game will take place on Saturday, March 19 at 1pm with a live stream will be available
