Gambier, OH – Earning their first season sweep of Kenyon since 2018-19, The Oberlin women's basketball team took down their NCAC rival 82-49 on the road Wednesday night. The Yeowomen move to 17-2 on the season and a 10-2 record in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The Yeowomen got off to a quick start in the first quarter, opening the game on an 8-0 run. The Crimson and Gold held their opponents off until the 5:48 when they made their way onto the board with back-to-back three pointers. A quick response from
Camille Zinaich and
Gina Lombard put the Yeowomen back up by seven. Keeping the pace moving, the same duo finished off the quarter with basket to give Oberlin a 21-8 lead over Kenyon.
Not pulling back in the second quarter,
Maggie Balderstone drove in the paint for a layup of their own before Zinaich made a three-point play to extend the Yeowomen's lead. First-year
Bryana Woodard showed up big in the middle minutes of the quarter with six-straight points to put Oberlin ahead at 33-21. In the final seconds of the half,
Jaedyn O'Reilly broke away from her defense and ran downcourt for a layup to extend the lead to 15. Up 39-24, the Yeowomen headed into halftime with a comfortable lead over the Ladies.
Kenyon came out stronger in the second half, holding Oberlin scoreless until
Alyson Jefferson made a layup off a fastbreak to open the scoring. Jefferson stayed hot for the Yeowomen, scoring eight of the team's next ten points. As the quarter came to a close, senior
Rowan Smith found Lombard outside the arc for a three-pointer to put the Yeowomen ahead 60-44 ahead of the final period of play.
