Swimming & Diving Concludes 2022 NCAC Championships

Granville, Ohio – The 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships came to a close Saturday night on the campus of Denison University.
 
The Yeowomen ended the four-day meet in fifth place with 827 points and the Yeomen placed sixth with 695.5 points.
 
In her final NCAC Championships, senior Rachel Maxwell opened the evening by completing the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:02.08, which was 51 seconds shy of her seed time as that drastic drop earned her a 10th-place finish.
 
Sophomore Lily Azaran and senior Kate Raphaely combined for 28 points in the 100-yard IM as Azaran ended 13th in 1:05.50 with Raphaely checking in 18th at 1:06.88.
 
A trio of Yeowomen rookies claimed spots 12 through 14 in the 200-yard fly as first-year Ava Schigur led the trinity in 2:26.08. Lucy Lee followed in 2:28.35 while Emma Frothingham completed the contingency in 2:31.16.
 
Senior Sophie Schnake capped off her diving career by placing sixth off the 3-meter board with an 11-dive total of 295.50.
 
In the closing 400 free relay, the grouping of Hannah Hale, Ava Peyton, Isabel Pfaff, and Ellie Frost secured the seventh-best time in school history with a mark of 3:40.81 to place sixth overall.  

Freshman Isaac Viviano highlighted the Yeomen effort, qualifying for the A-Final in the 200-yard breaststroke as he placed eighth overall and moved into second in school history with a time of 2:08.04.
 
Dylan Bechtold got the evening started for the Oberlin men's team by securing 22 points with a 10th-place finish mile as he completed the trek 17:00.69.
 
In his final conference meet, senior Jonathan Hupfeld nearly set the school record in the 400-yard IM as stopped the clock at 54.56, just five one-hundredths of a second off Michael Lin's school-best time of 54.51 that he set in 2017. Hupfeld's efforts secured him a 10th-place finish.
 
First-year Erik Fendorf moved into a fifth-place time on Oberlin's all-time top times list in the 100-yard free as he matched Craig Betchart's 2006 time of 47.37 to place 10th in the race. Fellow rookie Myles Felt followed with an 11th-place effort in the 200-yard fly, posting the fourth-fastest time in program history at 1:56.91.
 
The meet concluded with the Yeomen quartet of Fendorf, Bechtold, Felt, and Viviano moving into seventh in school history in the 400-yard free relay as the unit placed eighth in 3:13.80

Select members of the teams may compete next weekend at the Kenyon College Fast Chance Meet.
