27-Year School Record Falls to Highlight Day Two of NCAC Championships

Granville, Ohio – The halfway point of the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships was reached Thursday night on the campus of Denison University.
 
After two days of competition, the Yeowomen are in fifth place with 269 points while the Yeomen rest in seventh with 232 tallies.  
 
The highlight of the evening came at the very end as the night as the Yeomen's 400-yard medley relay team of Nora Holder, Isaac Viviano, Myles Felt, and Erik Fendorf erased the school record that has held since 1995. This impressive contingency of youngsters clocked in at 3:31.07 to place sixth in race and narrowly get ahead of the previous school-best mark of 3:31.15.
 
The night started with Yeowomen foursome of Hannah Hale, Isabel Pfaff, Ava Peyton, and Ellie Frost moving into a third-place tie on Oberlin's all-time top-10 list in the 200-yard free relay as the unit placed sixth overall in 1:39.68. Frost later clocked in at 24.90 in the prelims in the 50-yard free to move into ninth in program history and then checked in at 25 seconds flat in the finals to place 17th.
 
Charlotte Hantus had a strong morning swim in the 500-yard free (5:28.79) to get into the B-Final but fell off that pace in the evening, finishing 18th in 5:35.81.
 
First-year Bella Sites won the C-Final of the 200-yard IM, trimming two seconds from her morning jaunt to post a mark of 2:14.69, which would have been good for 17th instead of 19th had she been in the B-Final.
 
In her final conference meet, senior Sophie Schnake took seventh in the women's 1-meter diving event with 273.75 points.
 
The night concluded with the 400-yard medley relay where the grouping of Peyton, Skye Slade, Frost and Hale stopped the clock at 4:06.99 to finish in sixth.
 
On the men's side, Viviano and Bechtold scored 31 points for the Yeomen the 500-yard free as Viviano clocked in 14th in 4:51.73 with Bechtold one spot back at 4:53.15. Felt chipped in 12 points with an 18th-place showing in the 200-yard IM as he completed the trek in 2:00.40.
 
Fendorf moved into sixth in program history with his morning 50-yard sprint, tapping the wall in 21.50 and he would return at night to place 15th in 21.58.
 
Day three commences tomorrow morning with preliminary races set for 9:30 a.m. with the finals to follow that evening at 6 p.m.
