Arlington, Virginia – The Oberlin College women's basketball team got back to their winning ways as they took down Widener in the consolation game of the Pablo Coto Tournament. The 60-51 victory on Sunday night moves the Yeowomen to 3-2 on the season.
Bryana Woodard guided the Yeowomen to the victory with a team-high 14 points and five rebounds.
Camille Zinaich added 12 points, nine rebounds in the win while
Gina Lombard tallied three assists. In a full team effort, the Yeowomen out-rebound the Pride 35-34 and dished out seven more assists than their opponent.
Oberlin took an early lead in the game, but it was neck-and-neck throughout the first quarter until Ziniach hit a jumper at the buzzer. With only a two-point lead, the Crimson and Gold exted their advantage to as much as six points in the half when
Jaedyn O'Reilly and
Angela Kumler combined for six-straight points. Oberlin would not score for six minutes until Zinaich again hit the final shot of the half to give the Yeowomen a 25-23 lead.
The Crimson and Gold were only outscored in the third quarter, as Widener put up 15 to Oberlin's 14 points. Battle they did as the Yeowomen regroup for a massive final quarter push. Right out of the gates, Woodard put up a string of four points before
Alyson Jefferson drove for a layup to secure a five-point advantage. With just three minutes to go, OC went on a 10-2 run to clinch the victory.
With the conclusion of the Pablo Coto Tournament, O'Reilly was selected to the six-person All Tournament Team. The junior guard averaged ten points and four rebounds over the weekend's games.
The Yeowomen stay on the road for their next game on Tuesday, November 22 against Muskingum. Tipoff is set for 7pm with a live stream available
